WASHINGTON -- Special Agent Robert Wright of
the FBI's Chicago Division could not have
been surprised by the bureau's reflexive
reaction when he called a press conference
June 2 at the National Press Club.
Another FBI Agent Blows the Whistle
New evidence that the Bureau quashed
another terror probe before 9/11
Special Agent Robert Wright is one of the
most knowledgeable people in the FBI when it
comes to terrorism. He is also the only FBI
agent to have seized funds (over $1.4
million) from U.S.-based terrorists using
federal civil forfeiture statutes prior to
September 11.
SENATORS CONCERNED ABOUT MORE ALLEGED
PROBLEMS AT FBI'S OFFICE OF PROFESSIONAL
RESPONSIBILITY
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public
interest group that investigates and
prosecutes government corruption and abuse,
said today that its client, FBI Special Agent
Robert G. Wright, Jr., is facing retaliatory
treatment from FBI management for telling the
truth about dereliction of duty and
negligence within the FBI and specifically,
the bureau's International Terrorism
Unit. The FBI informed Wright that he is now
the subject of an Office of Professional
Responsibility investigation. Wright is
joined in his criticism of the FBI by his now
retired former partner, John Vincent (who now
heads Judicial Watch's Chicago office),
and by former Assistant United States
Attorney Mark Flessner, who worked with
Wright on the same criminal cases in the
Chicago area.
FBI agent Robert Wright of the Chicago field
office, who had been investigating a
suspected terrorist cell for three years, was
informed in January 2001 that the case was
being closed. This despite Wright's
contention that his case was growing
stronger. His investigation included
individuals from the notorious Ptech, a
software company which provided product for
the White House, Congress, FBI, CIA, IRS,
Army, Navy, and FAA and which was raided by
federal agents in December 2002.

Three months before September 11, Wright
wrote a stinging internal memo charging that
the FBI was not interested in thwarting a
terrorist attack, but rather "was merely
gathering intelligence so they would know who
to arrest when a terrorist attack occurred."
(UPI, May 30, 2002, cited in Griffin, p. 83);

Wright did say that FBI bureaucrats "intentionally and
repeatedly thwarted his attempts to launch a more
comprehensive investigation to identify and neutralize
terrorists." And that "FBI management failed to take
seriously the threat of terrorism in the U.S."

Two veteran FBI investigators say they were
ordered to stop investigations into a
suspected terror cell linked to Osama bin
Laden's al Qaeda network and the Sept. 11
attacks.

In a dramatic interview with ABCNEWS, FBI
special agents and partners Robert Wright and
John Vincent say they were called off
criminal investigations of suspected
terrorists tied to the deadly bombings of two
U.S. embassies in Africa.
